hobbyDB is glad to have Casey Thornton on board as a Catalog Editor and Outreach Specialist. His job entails reaching out to collector clubs to round up experts and participants for our project.

Casey worked previously as the Multi-Unit Manager for Human Touch and as a Genius at the Apple Store, which really comes in handy in our Mac-based office.

He collects Bows and Archery related items, as well as Books and Medieval related items. His more modern passions include restoring a 1948 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet that has been in his family since it was brand new. He is also the Subject Manager for the Lincoln section on our site.

Motorcycles Roar Into hobbyDB Database

As our online catalog of everything collectible continues to expand, we have added a section for motorcycles… real, full-size 1:1 scale bikes, that is. This includes choppers, sport bikes, scooters, cruisers, and everything in between.

Having a comprehensive listing of motorbikes will benefit collectors of model motorcycles as well, as you will now be able to compare notes and cross reference your models with the real thing.

Our first motorcycle, a BMW R 1100 RS, was posted on May 1, and many have been added since. If you are an expert on motorcycles (an entire brand or just one model), start posting new models on our site today!

hobbyDB joins Time Warp Comics for Free Comic Book Day

The best things in life are free, and that includes comic books! In Boulder, Time Warp Comics shop saw a line go down the block and around the corner… and that was an hour before they even opened. Costumed kids, authentic Imperial Storm Troopers, and the 1989 Batmobile (yes, the real Batmobile) were there to greet everyone. hobbyDB was there as well with an interactive booth just outside the door to sign up new members and show off our expanding Action Figures and Comics and Graphic Novels sections.

Christian Braun demonstrates how cool and useful our site is for comic book collectors.

Everyone who signed up at the event and then posted a new item to our database by the next Wednesday was entered for a drawing for one of three $50 gift cards from Time Warp.

If you signed up and haven’t posted yet, you have until midnight Wednesday, May 6, 2015 to enter. And the more you add to the catalog, the more chances you have to win! So hurry, and good luck!

Kids and supervillains of all sizes came out for free comic books.

The net’s hottest new Hot Wheels Catalog…

Hot_Wheels-Logo
As part of our grand plan to catalog everything, the hobbyDB gang have decided that a good thing to start with would be Hot Wheels. (We don’t believe in starting small…). That’s every Hot Wheels ever made in every variation, of course. And we’re not just talking about the Mainline, or just the cars. We also want the rrRumblers, Zowees, Sizzlers, bigger scale stuff like this Pantera, Mexican issues, Tune Up Towers, hats, pins, print ads – everything! The list is endless. Well, actually it’s not really endless, it’s just that the end is several hundred thousand items away. And that’s without all the pages on HW-related subjects; designers like Larry Wood and series like Blackwalls.

That’s why we’ve started bringing in the big guns. We’ve got Chris Parker working with us and Gary Barnum has just joined Mike Zarnock on our Advisory Board. Bruce Pascal is helping out with data and so is David Williamson, the famous Toy Car Collector of RedlineCollector.com. We’ve already imported the info from Andy Goodman’s ModelPackRat site, which got us off to a great start. Big thanks to Anita from CFR too, who’s helping publicize and got us our first Subject manager – a big welcome to user mspace who’s managing the rrRumblers section. Jim Garbaczewski, co publisher of the Tomart Hot Wheels price guides and the Hot Wheels Newsletter has joined us as well.

There are a few choice vehicles that already have great pages like Ecto-1 and the Silhouette.

It’s a great start, but we need more help to build on it! Are you a Hot Wheels fanatic who likes to catalog? Or maybe you have a forum you’d like to get the word out on? Or some other HW connection? If so, get in touch!
