New from the 2016 Nuremberg Toy Fair; Greenlight & GMP & Road Signature Oh My

hobbyDB’s man on the scene at the 2016 Nuremberg Toy Fair has started filtering back photos. Here’s what we’ve seen so far…

20160127_122922

From Greenlight, the infamous Wagon Queen Family Truckster from National Lampoon’s Vacation (and the recent, best-not-mentioned, reboot.) This is the 1/18 version, there will also be 1/64 and 1/43 models.

Also from Greenlight, in their new 1/18 Precision Series; Cadillac Ambulances (and maybe a hearse!)

From Lucky Diecast (successor to the venerable Yat Ming) comes this very cool 1955 Willys Jeep Station Wagon in 1/18.

And from GMP, a new Hot Rod model. This is a new tool, the unpainted one is the first tooling test, the red one is the prototype (they ran out of time to paint the roof!).

INTRODUCTION

Good day to everyone! This report is the one you have been waiting for! We all get to see the new product for the rest of this year and into the following year. 2015 has been a year of change! There’s a new Matchbox Team in place, although the faces may have changed, the desire to improve the brand has never been more of a priority than it is today. Dave Weise, Michael Heralda and the rest of the gang set the wheels in motion to put Matchbox back on track. Gerry Cody and his team will keep going what these fine gentlemen started. 2016 models are already selected and 2017 is now the focus with collectors in mind. The proof of this is in the desire of Matchbox to listen to our ideas. The results of the Collector’s Poll are in this report. These are the models voters decided they would like to see made and the candidates will be posted in the War Room for consideration. Well I’ve talked enough for now. Onto the Gathering Report.

Thank you for reading…..Larry

2015 Matchbox Gathering Report

2015 & 2016 are looking great by what I’ve seen and heard. Not only did the dinner presentation provide us with a lot of information, but the seminar before that hosted by the Matchbox Team was an informal meeting of the minds that revealed even more information! Let’s jump right in shall we???? Matchbox is now under a new umbrella (or group) that is called The Toy Box! What that means to us is that we are no longer associated with the blue brand and that will give us freedom to pursue just about any model we wish without approval from them. Now it’s up to Mattel to let MBX accomplish this without restrictions. Are you listening Mattel??? To start out in mid-August there will be an exclusive Jeep Collection available at Wal-Mart.

Colorado and Wyoming Lego Enthusiasts Meet at hobbyDB

About 25 members Lego enthusiasts gathered with their models.

The hobbyDB office was the scene for a meeting of COWLUG (Colorado and Wyoming Lego Users Group) on May 18. About 20 members brought their latest creations to share and show off.

There were several amazing custom spaceships, one of them inspired by the shape of a jellyfish. A rather nicely detailed fighter jet proved to be deceptively amazing as it could transform into a robot without being taken apart. Several custom steam locomotives were on track as well including one disguised as a large pirate ship.

And just in case anyone needed extra entertainment, someone even brought a drive-in theater with “The Lego Movie” playing on a concealed iPad.

Many of these models and tons of others from club members will be on display at the Denver Comic Con from May 22-24.

Big Fun, Miniature Diecast at the 15th Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals

Our good friend and  diecast collector Chris Parker attended the 15th Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals from March 25-29 in Lexington, Kentucky. While some models were hard to find, good times were aplenty. Here are some highlights from Chris.

The entry to the conference hall featured giant loops of orange track. No one was allowed to ride on them, however.

Several Hot Wheels designers were on hand to sign cars and posters and talk about their creations. Here Mark Jones shows off an upcoming creation… a wild custom Corvair Greenbrier Van surf dragster. No word when this model comes out, but it will be a cool one!

As if the convention wasn’t already enough fun, Chris celebrated his birthday at the event. He makes a convincing Simpsons character, doesn’t he? With him is Mike Zarnock, who is a member of the hobbyDB advisory board.
