Changes coming to the hobbyDB Search Experience

As some of you may have noticed, we recently started to experience some performance issues, making the site harder to access. To help get things back to normal, we’ve accelerated some of our planned changes. The first of which is a change to what you see on the Database Item search page –

The search results now show Reference numbers (which we recently added as another ability to sort the page), but the Production Status and Related Subjects have been removed for the short term. The good news is that as soon as we have done some optimization work on those they are both are slated to return.  Here are the other changes that are currently underway or scheduled  –

  1. Numerical sorting by Reference # (at the moment it sorts 1, 20, 3, A1, should be 1, 3, 20, A1)
  2. Sorting by Production Dates
  3. Filtering by Brand, Series and Production Date on the left-hand side
  4. Ability to add and remove filter tags on this search, like the ones we already have on the Marketplace (now done)  –
  5. Infinite Scroll (first for Database Entries, then for Subjects and your Showcase)
  6. The same Filter Tags for the Subjects search  (now done)
  7. Sort Subjects by Likes  (now done)
  8. A new filter for Subjects that you liked, think of that as an easy bookmark  (now done)

We hope to have all of this in place by the end of this year.  Further ideas  –  as always  –  are highly welcome!

This looks good. Can’t wait to do some testing.

I’ve been working on adding as many UPC’s as I can to existing items.  When might we be able to at least try to search by UPC?
