The Toy Peddler Undergoes hobbyDB Upgrade

We’re thrilled to welcome our friends and partners at The Toy Peddler (or TTP, for short) to the full hobbyDB experience.

One of the two 2022 TTP Exclusives

A proud member of the hobbyDB family of brands, TTP has been a reliable marketplace for diecast and model cars for more than 24 years (and has been creating some exciting Custom models over the year – you can find them here).

The time has come to drop a new engine in The Toy Peddler by integrating with the hobbyDB database.

  • 17,312 new members (we migrated everybody who did not yet have a hobbyDB account and bought or sold at least one item on TTP
  • 678 current Sellers that offer 74,881 Items for Sale (mostly model cars but also some Action Figures, POPs, Comics etc.)

For our diecast lovers who are already Members, you can look forward to more variety in the hobbyDB Marketplace (please note that the counter showing the total number of Items for Sale has been paused to make the migration faster).

Our super small team appreciates your patience as we undergo a transfer of this magnitude (almost done!). When complete, you’ll be able to peruse around 75,000 new sales listings.

Some public service announcements

  • You may notice that some items cannot currently be bought after you’ve added them to your cart. This is because not all Sellers have yet set up their PayPal details yet. However, we get a notification every time this happens, so we will contact the seller to ensure everything is set up correctly, and then will let you know that you can go ahead and checkout successfully.
  • We will be doing a lot of cleanup in the next few days like removing want ads (TTP allowed this and they were in the same database).
  • Over the next few weeks, sellers will have to add information to their listings to help make their items show up when you use the filters for Brands, Boxed vs. Loose, Lots etc.

Like Pop Price Guide, the new site can be reached via the www.TheToyPeddler.com URL and will only show Model Cars as well as all items that are Hot Wheels branded (so for example Hot Wheels Books or T-Shirts). We already had the first expression of interest by TTP Members to join the Squad which means we can add to the 215,000 Model Cars now in the database.

We could not have done this without

Special thanks go to Anita who over the last few years has made sure TTP stays the best for diecast collectors; George for help with keeping the geriatric TTP technology from collapsing (we think that TTP is the last website that is still using Perl that was invented in 1977 and last updated in 1998!!!); and Usman who worked tirelessly to allow us to migrate Members and Items for Sale (definitely the hardest data migration we have ever done here at hobbyDB).

  • The new TTP is very different, and it will take a while to learn, however, we believe there is a lot more to offer both for Buying & Selling and for research and collection management (for example, check out how to make your own Showcase here).
  • We will be working on this migration for at least the next three weeks, so please bear with us and keep an open mind. We will keep you informed on both when we have done the above and how to use features on the new site.

If you are a TTP Member, then you can visit the new TTP Help Section here. To find out more about our mission to document every model car ever made, click here!

Let us know if you have any questions in the meantime by sending an email to support@hobbydb.com and we’ll let you know as soon as the transfer is complete.

Great news – congratulations on the integration! Looks like a win-win s they say. Once the TTP folks use hobbyDB for a while, it will become very easy to navigate. The learning curve is not too bad.
