I obtained a Matchbox Models of Yesteryear collection from the Milwaukee, WI USA, area over the summer which included an assortment of various blister packed models. I remember seeing these in the Turn Style store (a Walmart-style department store owned by Jewel Grocery Store) in the Ford City Shopping Center (Chicago, IL) in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
The first style blister pack had a Maroon backing card and shows a 1968 catalog on the back, with a note that the King Size Cougar will appear mid-1968. The backing card also shows the Fred Bronner name. These photos was taken from a recent eBay auction.
The 1969 blister pack features a blue backing card which has a standard Yesteryear box glued to it. This also has a Fred Bronner reference on the back of the card.
The next blister pack, also from 1969, features a card that has artwork normally found on the back of the box, the box again being glued on the card. This is the final card that has a Fred Bronner reference.
The last two Blister Pack styles do not include a box, and they consist of a card with a Blister bubble holding the model. These designs appeared during the Superfast Era as the Superfast products are shown on the back of the card. There is no date on those cards, but I will date them as 1970 and 1971 based on the Superfast products shown.
Needless to say, since these designs only each appeared for one year, they are very difficult to find now and their history is short-lived.
