I have been collecting designer toys since 2004 and this is my weekly column. I also have other interests (I am for example the Curator of the Breyer Horses and Warne’s Observer’s Pocket Books and generally am known to add anything cute to my collection).
This week’s art toy of the week is an older figure, almost twenty years (jeepers, how has that happened??). Tigerbaby was American artist Sam Flores’ first vinyl figure, standing 7” tall and produced by Strangeco. I love how this is a very distinctive figure in Flores’ style with the disproportionately large hands of the characters in his illustrations.
I remember buying this for retail when it was released, I have the original orange version. I remember also seeing the grey version, but guess who didn’t pick that one up? That’s me. They are hard to find these days and when they do show up for sale will be $100 or more, over $300 for the rarer colour ways. A fun figure to add to your collection if you do find one though!
