Art Toy of the Week – Tuddy

I have been collecting designer toys since 2004 and this is my weekly column.  I also have other interests (I am for example the Curator of the Breyer Horses and Warne’s Observer’s Pocket Books and generally am known to add anything cute to my collection).

This week’s art toy of the week is Tuddy by Annie Montgomerie. Do you like anthropomorphic creatures with ever-so slightly creepy baby doll bodies? Then Annie’s work is for you! Tuddy was one of two 12” figures produced in vinyl by Unbox Industries in 2017. Tuddy was available in two colourways, one colour and one black.

The detail on this figure is *chef’s kiss*. Annie’s original pieces are all hand produced with fake fur and carefully crafted clothing, to produce it in vinyl with such detail is wonderful.

If you wanted to pick up one of Annie’s original pieces you would be spending several thousand dollars, so it was lovely for Unbox to produce these so they were available to those with less deep pockets. Tuddy is hard to find these days and if you do find one for sale they will be a few hundred dollars, but worth every penny.
