Art Toy of the Week – King Ken

I have been collecting designer toys since 2004 and this is my weekly column.  I also have other interests (I am for example the Curator of the Breyer Horses and Warne’s Observer’s Pocket Books and generally am known to add anything cute to my collection).

This week’s Art Toy of the Week is King Ken. This King Kong inspired figure is from James Jarvis and produced by Strangeco. He was released in two sizes, a large chunky 12″ figure and a smaller blind boxed 3″ figure, here I’m focusing on the 12″ figure. He was released in 2006 in several colourways, including flocked figures.

We have all 6 variants of the big figure on HobbyDB. I have the pink version which was a Clutter Magazine‘ exclusive, he really is an impressive and imposing figure! They are harder to find for sale, and displayed figures are prone to broken nails, the flocked figures are prone to getting scuffed so need careful handling! If you find them for sale in good condition expect to pay several hundred for one.
