Art Toy of the Week – Mad*L

I have been collecting designer toys since 2004 and this is my weekly column.  I also have other interests (I am for example the Curator of the Breyer Horses and Warne’s Observer’s Pocket Books and generally am known to add anything cute to my collection).

This week’s Art Toy of the Week is the original MAD*L from artist MAD. First released as 5″ tall “Phase 1″ in 2004, they quickly became a popular figure. Further releases including Phases 2-4, an Artist series, numerous special editions and extra large 10″ figures released too. With 10” DIY figures produced, there are loads of customs out there and there were several MAD*L exclusive custom shows in the early days.

Three art toy figures, one blue, one black and white with a top hat, and one rainbow coloured

“Phase 4” MAD*L Figures

If you like these original MAD*L figures they’re not too hard to find second hand, you might have to do a bit of digging, and usually fairly reasonably priced. The exception for that being any one-off customs!
