Did You Own It: Original Vintage Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Action Figures

Cowabunga! That’s what kids of the late 80s yelled while channeling their own Turtle Power with the first ever line of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures.

It was back then when Playmates Toys brought Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael from the 2D worlds of comic books and cartoons to their very first tangible form.

In the decades since, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle merchandise has become a monster in the collectibles universe and are still going strong today. As of this writing, you’ll find more than 3,400 TMNT collectibles on hobbyDB.

But first, they had to crawl out of the sewer.

Standing 4 inches tall and featuring seven points of articulation, the pizza loving quartet was among a new wave of action figures released in 1988, competing against the Ghostbusters and the debut of Starting Lineup figures.

These TMNT action figures are not rare and fairly easy to obtain in both the hard and soft head variants. And if that’s not an option, Playmates Toys re-released the collection in 2021.

The issue is finding ones that weren’t heavily played while battling the action figures forms of Bebop, General Traag and, of course, Shredder. All with the help of the Turtle Blimp.

That said, a fully mint and still in the box version can fetch upwards of about $2,000.

So we want to know, did you own it? See them all on hobbyDB here, including their accessories! Check out more from our Did You Own It series here!
