Welcome to the third edition of our look back over the past month of model horse sales for those with deep pockets! There have been some beautiful and rare figures sold this month.
This was a gorgeous Breyer 1:9 figure on the Connemara Mare mould. Released in 2023 at Breyerfest, there were four colour variants and the rarest popped up on eBay! This is the glossy sun-faded black figure that was a manager’s special edition, only 14 of them where produced. That meant the hammer went down on this figure for $4,000!
Another 1:9 Breyer, this time called Benasque on the Spanish Stallion mould. A limited edition winter decorator web special figure from 2018, only 350 of these figures were made. When one came up on eBay, he sold for $1,025!
Moon Warrior is a striking 1:9 Breyer figure on the Nokota mould and very much a grail piece for many collectors! He was a Connoisseur special edition from 2008, limited to just 350 pieces. When one became available on eBay he sold for $1,150!
Another striking and rare 1:9 Breyer, Inconspicuous was also a Connoisseur special release from 2004, only 350 were made. So when he popped up on eBay he went for $1,400!
A newer 1:19 Breyer, Araba was released in 2023 in two colourways for Breyerfest, the more common black and white sabino, and this the more limited rose grey sabino. Only 240 of this colourway were released making the figure very desirable, so when one came up for sale it went for $1,330!
Breyer is always keen to jump on the bandwagon of any major horsey book franchise or motion picture, and The Black Stallion and Alec set which included tack and a doll, was released back in 1982. A complete set with really good condition box came up on eBay and sold for $1,199!
This handsome Breyer was a Breyerfest prize release in 2018, only 26 of them were produced! When Woodford popped up on eBay he sold for $3,000!
This is a pretty Breyer model named Olympia was released in 2020 for the Seattle Soiree event, only 40 editions of her were produced! This rare figure does not come up for sale often so when she popped up on eBay she sold for $1,100!
Meet Cornelius! He’s a Breyer donkey, rather than a horse, and on the very popular seated donkey figure named “Brighty”. Cornelius is painted in the easily recognisable “candy corn” colours and was a Collector Club special release back in 2017. Only 50 of him were produced! He’s a grail for many donkey collectors so when he popped up on eBay he went for a whopping $4,550!
For most Breyers, the ones that get the big bucks are the 1:9 scale traditional figures. The second most popular scale is the Stablemate at 1:32, average price for these is $5-10 for common ones, maybe $50-100 for rarer ones, but there are some exceptions! And Williamette has proven himself to be one of them! Released in 2023 as a prize for the Best Costumes Contest at Breyerfest. Only 10 of these figures were released. So when he appeared on eBay he went for $1,500!
This is a stunning leopard appaloosa, named Letters to Li Hua, one of a kind (OOAK) model from Peter Stone. When she went to auction the final bid was $3,631!
If fantasy unicorns are more your thing, meet Dreamcycle from Peter Stone! On the same mould as the appaloosa above, Dreamcycle was a limited edition of just 34 pieces released in 2019. When one of these popped up for sale on eBay she went for $1,800!
Thyme is a gorgeous Peter Stone one of a kind (OOAK) model released this year. When he went to auction this pretty Andalusian model went for $4,560!
Moving over to the clinky side, Amir is a ceramic Hagen Renaker figure, very much vintage from the 1950s. This is the “larger” version of the two Amir models. When one came up for sale on eBay still with his Hagen Renaker sticker attached, he sold for $1,000!
Another Hagen Renaker figure, Metalchex, this time in a beautiful glossy buckskin. An unusual “clinky” piece, so when he came up on eBay he went for $1,300!
Another “clinky” ceramic figure, this time named Young Entry by Royal Worcester. An older and rare piece of a young girl on her pony, the pair sold on eBay for $1,195!
This pretty pair of figures of a Welsh Mare and Foal by Albany Fine China is lovely and detailed and mounted on a wooden plinth. An older figurine and a limited edition release of just 500, when this pair popped up on eBay they went for $1,700!
Two Bits is a 1:9 Breyer from the late 1960s-early 1970s. While the standard model doesn’t have very high value, there’s always some rare anomalies and in this case there’s the packaging! The general consensus in Breyer collectors is to “free the ponies” from packaging, but if you happen to have one in some unusual packaging like this “Showcase Collection” all-plastic packaging, keep them locked up! The Showcase Collection packaging was very short run in the early 1970s, it’s quite fragile and easily shattered. This Two Bits came up for sale on eBay, even with a damaged corner, he sold for $1,000!
