I was asked to list the top ten Hot Wheel Hauler items in my collection and that was surprisingly tough – but here is my list:
The Editor’s Choice is a cool hauler that was only available to Red Line Club members who wrote an article for the Red Line Club or had their collections featured on their site. I have a running list on the site of the 500 that were made and have accounted for 124 of them.
I have the Masters of the Universe hauler on my list because I remember how hard they were to find back in the early to mid 90s before you could find most anything on the internet. They were even hard to find at the bigger toy shows.
This is another one that the memory of it that brings it to the list. I remember when I ordered my LE Davis Printing hauler and got the Prototype Giveaway card with it and thinking how cool it would be to own that prototype. This was early on in my hauler collecting days.
A Golden Coloring Book was one of the first print items in my collection (check out that Pennzoil Hauler!). It got me hunting for other items including advertisements, e-sheets and so on.
The one that started it all with a twist. The American Hauler is the hauler that started it all but the Japanese release came in a cool red box that I’m sure most collectors just trashed back in the day.
The Leo line of haulers and hard to find within themselves but the blue cabs are even harder. They are the Ocean Pacific Delivery, Racing Team and Goodyear Racing Tires. (One of the last Racing Team haulers that sold on eBay went for over $1,000).
Blister die line sheets are essential technical blueprints used to create the backing cards and thermoformed plastic blisters for packaging, outlining exactly where to cut, fold, and seal the materials.
The 700 Millionth was an employee only hauler that came in two versions. Chrome box, only 3 made and white box, only 24 made. (Numbers were confirmed by Bob Rosas. These rarely come available and when they do make sure you know where it came from because there have been tons of customs made of them.
I’m honored to own one of these, especially since we have lost Chris and there will never be more made. The prototype was of the Ocean Pacific Delivery and mine is the 700 Millionth. I think I’ve seen two other designs that he did.
This is blue card # 238 that has the Hot Wheels logo and “Delivery” on sides of box. BUT… this variant has a red Hot Wheels logo on the front bumper. These were released in 1994 and since then I have only heard of between 6 and 8 of them. It was listed in the 1993 release, Tomart’s Price Guide to Hot Wheels, by Michael T. Strauss but had no picture. I personally didn’t see a picture of it until around 2022.
