As collectors, we know the smallest details can make the biggest difference. Two collectibles may look nearly identical at first glance, but a very small variation can completely change an item’s interest, rarity and value. That’s why at hobbyDB we’re passionate about documenting even subtle differences between collectibles.
To help collectors identify these nuances, we created the concept of Subvariants and Subvariant Descriptions.
A Subvariant on hobbyDB is a collectible that is extremely similar to another version of the same item — so similar that even experienced collectors may need to take a closer look to spot the difference. These variations are usually minor enough that the manufacturer would still consider them the exact same release.
For example, these two Matchbox cars are considered Subvariants because the only difference between them is the wheel color.
To make things easier to navigate and spot at a glance, we have Subvariant Descriptions which tell the member exactly what is the differentiator. And now we’re excited to announce, we’ve added these descriptions to these five places –
