Can Apprayz give expert advice when to sell a Collectible?

Christian obsesses over collectibles, antiques and toys more than the average person, but (he believes) in a productive way. Documenting collectibles has been a passion since working on a book about his favorite childhood toys from Timpo 41 years ago.  He is a co-founder of hobbyDB, industry partner at Global Toy Expert and the Chair of the Pop Culture Hall of Fame and the Model Car Hall of Fame.

This is the first app that I saw that would give sale price recommendation “using advanced machine learning and real market data”  –

So of course I had to test that.  First was this Chomp (a hobbyDB Exclusive)  –

So EV of $72 to $88?  With a  PVI or Positive Value Index of 62 (I did not find a definition of that so think it goes from 1 to 100).  Not sure where they got that from.  There were no recent sale on eBay or other platforms that I could find and I can buy it for $20 on hobbyDB here and between $15 Best Offer and $50 on eBay right now  –

It also opines that this is not a First Edition, whatever that means?  It seems to use a Hot Wheels concept here (the first use of a casting in the Mainline makes the item a First Edition)?

Time to try one more item, my favorite M2 Machines model (get yours here)  –

Ha ha, identified as a “Jumping Ball for Pet Dog”, “Interactive Training Toys” or “Automatic Pet Puppy Fetch Toy”…  this is what Google gives me for that first phrase.

I now have a new idea for a hobbyDB exclusive  –

AI Image (I assumed you would have guessed)

…and this serves as the best illustration that AI only works if it has good training data.  And that to my mind has to be a curated database, like hobbyDB!  Please try our new image matching that is currently in Beta.

Companies don’t use AI because it’s good. They use it because it’s perceived to be “good enough” by the companies that don’t want to pay skilled workers and by the public who have stopped using critical thought.
