I have been collecting designer toys since 2004 and this is my new monthly column looking back at art toys past. I have several hundred designer toys as a black hole collector, and a huge variety I’ve developed over the years.
This is my new little blog focusing on the art toy world’s history. I thought it would be interesting to look back and see what was going on this month but over the last 20 years of art toys. So for this month, we’re looking at August 2019.
2019 has no business being seven years ago by the way, it definitely feels like it should have been last week.
Here’s just a small selection of some of my favourites from the dozens of amazing art toys released that month.
Created by Jason Limon and produced by Martian Toys, the Grape flavour Abomnible Snowcone stood just over 7″ tall and came with its own 2″ tall ice cream truck.
Look at this quirky guy! Bonehead was created by Tony Riff and produced by Unruly Industries.
Teresa Chiba‘s Inu-Harigon Kotobuki black version figure had it’s online release. The figure stood just over 8″ tall.
Released in vivid pink and purple shades, this Midnight Orchid version of Owl Clam was released by Nathan Jurevicius and Toy Art Gallery.
This gruesome twosome are the Cadaver Twins by Splurrt, this purple version has some brilliant hand painted details.
This is a Mega Nano Teq by Quiccs with Clutter in the “Martian Glow” colourway. Standing just over 5″ tall, it was released in double cast resin with a cool glow in the dark skeleton inside.
The “Good Day” yellow colourway of Shon Side‘s Space Dream astronaut kitty. This happy little chap stands just over 6″ tall.
This is the supersize 8″ tall “Beer” version of Ziqi‘s Little Dino, produced by Unbox Industries in a fun golden glitter colour.
As part of Ron English‘s Popganda line, the Basketball Grin joined the clan standing 7″ tall.
This is the super cute Kenneth in Thought which was an exclusive very limited release from Yoyo Yeung for the Beijing Toy Show.
