With plenty of the month still to come, here are 10 of the biggest collectibles stories of August 2026 so far.
One of the biggest card chases of 2026 ended when Cooper Flagg’s one-of-one Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card was pulled in Rhode Island.
Rhody Breakers hit the card during a three-hobby-box break for a client, and Topps later confirmed the discovery. The card had already attracted a $1.5 million cash advance offer from Goldin and a massive trade offer from the Dallas Mavericks.
Three sealed first-print Pokémon Game Boy games were sold together for an extraordinary $2 million. The deal included Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow and was facilitated by private collectibles brokerage Nostalgix.
A one-of-one Josh Allen National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph sold privately for $1.7 million. Alt announced the transaction, which established a new record for a Josh Allen card. The 2018 National Treasures card features Allen’s autograph and an NFL Shield patch from his rookie season.
The high-end One Piece market reached a new level when a Monkey D. Luffy trophy card sold for $713,700 at Goldin. The result set a new public sales record for a One Piece trading card. The sale is another sign of how quickly the upper end of the One Piece Card Game market has grown.
Mattel combined two major collector audiences with its new Monster High Skullector Michael Myers doll. The Halloween-inspired doll sold out of its Fang Club early-access allocation on August 7 before general public preorders opened. The quick sellout continued the strong collector demand surrounding Mattel’s Monster High Skullector horror releases.
Music memorabilia and doll collecting came together with the launch of Mattel’s new Whitney Houston Barbie Signature doll. The doll recreates one of Houston’s most recognizable looks from the “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” era. The release adds the legendary singer to Barbie’s growing lineup of collectibles honoring major figures in music and popular culture.
Coin collectors received one of August’s biggest new releases when the U.S. Mint launched its 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set. The set pairs a 24-karat gold interpretation of the classic Walking Liberty Half Dollar with a companion silver medal. It is part of the Mint’s continuing celebration of historic American coin designs.
Spirit Halloween’s new Freddy Fazbear animatronic quickly became one of the hottest collectibles of the Halloween season.
The $500 Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronic has been difficult to find at some stores, helping send secondary-market prices far above retail. Sold eBay listings have appeared in the thousands of dollars as fans compete for the limited-release figure.
Disney unveiled a massive assortment of collectibles headed to D23 2026. The lineup includes limited-edition Star Wars lightsabers, Marvel replicas, Disney Parks figures, pins, plush, a limited-edition Redd doll and even a José animatronic from the Enchanted Tiki Room. One of the highlights is a Star Wars Legacy Lightsaber Box Set limited to 1,500 units worldwide.
One of the longest-running names in non-sports cards is back with the 2026 Wacky Packages All New Series. Topps is giving the classic parody-card brand another new collection featuring fresh artwork along with Chrome parallels, sketch cards and artist autographs. The release brings a hobby favorite dating back decades into the modern premium-card era.
The first part of August has already produced major stories across nearly every corner of collecting. Sports cards and Pokémon continue to generate enormous prices, but dolls, coins, toys, non-sports cards and Disney collectibles are also producing plenty of activity.
And with major auctions, product releases and events still scheduled for the rest of August, there should be no shortage of contenders to shake up this list before the month is over.
